The Ministry for the Environment of the Junta de Andalucia has given the green light for the construction of two wind power stations in Ardales.
The project consists of developing 30 wind power generators, 15 in Alamedilla (north of Sierra de Banos) and the other 15 in the area of Los Romerales (near the Cerro Redondo). The wind power stations in these two locations will generate a total of 30 megawatts of power each and will supply electricity to 2,000 homes. The project will be carried out by the firms Enerwind S.L. and the Sociedad Gestora de Parques Eólicos de Andalucía S. A.
However, the Ministry for the Environment will strictly monitor the projects ensuring certain guidelines are met. Such guidelines will include a system of vigilance to monitor and detect any possible fires; irrigation of the grounds while works are being carried out to avoid a build-up of dust; and confirmation that there are no large concentrations of birds in the area.
Once in operation, the energy from the wind power generators will be sent to Tajo de la Encantada power station through underground pipes, where it will be turned into electricity and distributed to the nearby city.
