Councils fight wind farm

Three local councils have objected to a planning application for a wind farm with five turbines – said to be nearly as high as Blackpool Tower.

A planning application has been submitted to Barnsley Council for the 125m high turbines at Sheephouse Heights off Mortimer Road, Penistone.

Penistone Town Council, Hunshelf Parish Council and Stocksbridge Town Council have all objected to the proposal.

The site is in Barnsley Council’s area but Stocksbridge Town Council has objected because the proposed site is on top of a ridge that overlooks the Upper Don Valley including Stocksbridge and Deepcar.
