Something else to mull over

I have read, with motivated self-interest, about the Deerfield Wind Project (disclosure- I live at the bottom of Searsburg Hill). As far as I can tell, there are compelling arguments, pros and cons, on both sides.
There is one issue, however, that raises serious concerns, and that I haven’t seen addressed.
While it’s true that some Vermonters, shortsighted in my opinion, local taxpayers, and electric customers, will benefit in limited ways, the ultimate beneficiaries of this project aren’t even United States citizens. The parent company of PPM Energy is Iberdrola – a Spanish conglomerate. That means the profits from this project will exit the U.S. and fill the coffers of an international corporation.
If you think the external control of U.S. energy assets and the financial enrichment and subsequent empowerment of those groups is inconsequential, you haven’t filled your gas tank lately.
