The letter from Maria McCaffery of the British Wind Energy Association was an advertisement for the Wind Weekend event (Voice of the North, May 19).
It is doubtful if the Davis family of Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire will be participating in this event because a wind farm close to their home has ruined their lives. The Journal published an article highlighting their plight on April 28, 2007.
Since then the noise level has forced them to abandon their home and they have now been told that their property has no market value. What does Ms McCaffery have to say about their situation?
Residents at Bothel in Cumbria are complaining about the noise from recently constructed wind turbines.
One elderly man is now unable to sleep at night because of the noise. During the Wind Weekend, will the BWEA be interviewing people who have been forced to live with industrial wind turbines disrupting their lives? Similar stories to these are reported from all over the world.
Ms McCaffery claims the “overwhelming majority of people in Britain support the renewable industry”. Presumably she means wind farms in particular.
However, how many of these people can see wind turbines from their homes, let alone hear them? How many who support wind farms have deliberately chosen to live next to one, apart from those who stand to gain financially from them?
Spare a thought for those whose lives have been, or are about to be, blighted by wind farms.
