Epilepsy fears of Woore wind farm

A Woore couple have spoken of their fears over the health of their family should a wind turbine plant be built near their home.

Roger and Kate Brooks voiced their concerns at a public meeting in the Victory Hall last Friday, organised by Woore Parish Council.

The meeting was called to discuss plans by Nuon Renewables to build seven wind turbines at a site in Poplar Lane, Bearstone.

Five of the turbines, each one with a height of 110m, would be situated in the parish of Woore.

The couple, of London Road, spoke to Nuon representatives at a public exhibition in the village last year, but failed to receive assurances about members of their family who have epilepsy.

“If the wind farm went ahead, the nearest turbine would be 760 meters away from our house,” Kate said.

“We have four members of our family with a history of epilepsy.
“Nuon did tell me that ‘We all have to make a sacrifice for green energy and that may well be yours.’

“We would hold Nuon fully responsible for the future health and safety of our son and the whole family for all the other health risks too.”

The plans are being considered by North Shropshire District Council and Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council, with a decision expected in August.

Around 50 people attended the meeting where parish councillors voted unanimously against the wind farm plans.

North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson was also at the meeting and said: “You have my total, implacable, relentless opposition to this horrific monstrosity.

“This is nothing to do with wind and nothing to do with green policy – this is all about massive government subsidy.

“We simply have to beat this application because, if this thing is established, it won’t be the last.

“It will change the landscape of this area totally.”
