Wind project debated in Bingham County

It seems the planning and zoning committee in Bingham County is just filling its nights with listening to people for and against wind farm projects, and after Wednesday night, it looks like they’ll have another go around.

Wednesday night the committee continued a meeting from May to listen to testimony of local people for and against a proposal for 66 wind turbines.

Western Energy is proposing the project. It’s a company out of Firth, Idaho. If the project is approved Western Energy would build on a 5,000 acre cattle ranch east of Shelley.

People opposed to the project say they don’t want their pristine views of the hills to be obstructed by the wind turbines. They’re also worried about their property values going down if the turbines are put up.

Those in favor of the project say it will help decrease taxes, and for those who own the property where the turbines will be built, the project will give them extra cash.

The committee didn’t make a decision Wednesday, and have continued the meeting until June 25.
