Windfarm surge in Victoria

Planning Minister Justin Madden has telegraphed his approval for another windfarm development in the south west of the state.

Moyne Shire Council has received a letter from the minister’s office detailing Mr Madden’s assessment of a 68-turbine, $300-million project.

The windfarm site is near the Port Fairy-Hamilton Rd intersection with Spencer Rd, known locally as Ryans Corner.

Moyne council has already agreed to the project, but it had to go to the minister’s office for the final stamp of approval.

“I intend to grant a planning permit once a cultural management plan has been approved under the Aboriginal Heritage Act,” Mr Madden wrote to council.

It is south of the giant 150-turbine Hawkesdale-Macarthur project.

Anti-windfarm campaigner Annie Gardner of Penshurst, said the windfarm approval was just another nail in the coffin of the countryside.
