Fight against Kelburn wind farm plan

Despite North Ayrshire Council refusing planning for the application for the erection of 19 turbines at Kelburn, which forms part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, the wind farm developers, Renewable Energy Systems, have decided to appeal to the Scottish Government to reject North Ayrshire Council’s refusal. A Public Inquiry will be held in Radio City, Kilbirnie on weekdays from 10th to 25th June from 10 am to hear the appeal.

Members of the Save Your Regional Park Campaign (SYRP), organised by the Ladymoor Wind Factory Action Group (LWFAG), and the prestigious Scottish Council for National Parks will be giving evidence to try to protect Clyde Muirshiel from irreversible industrialisation.

Sybil Simpson, Vice Chair of the LWFAG/SYRP, urges members of the public who are not at work and who care about preserving the Park for future generations to attend the Public Inquiry and give their support, saying, “If Kelburn Wind Farm is given planning permission it opens the doors for all other applications. It will become a ‘no go area’ for tourists and the economy of the area and many small businesses around the Park will suffer, with revenue down by as much as 25% according to the Scottish Parliament’s recent survey.”
