A Toronto-based company is proposing a wind turbine development that would involve three municipalities.
TransCanada Energy is suggesting approximately 75 turbines in its Romney Wind Power Project for Chatham- Kent – between Wheatley and Tilbury – as well as Leamington and Lakeshore.
The project is subject to an environmental screening assessment. An open house is scheduled for June 25, from 4 p. m. to 8 p. m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 324, located at 27 Erie St. N. in Wheatley.
A TransCanada spokesman couldn’t be reached for immediate comment Tuesday.
However, the company stated in a release it is committed to consulting with community members. Tom Storey, of Storey Samways Planning, is estimating that 40 of the proposed 75 turbines would be for Chatham- Kent.
An additional screening may be required under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, which would be harmonized with the provincial process.
