Huge propeller blades for a wind farm being built on the Romney Marsh are being transported across the county for 13 days from today – and police are warning of traffic delays.
Seventy-eight abnormally long vehicles will be escorted by police from Chatham Docks, with the three loads leaving at around 10.30am. Motorists are urged to check traffic reports before setting off.
Police expect there to be another two journeys per day from tomorrow. Each movement of blades will involve a maximum of three vehicles and no loads will be transported at weekends.
Planned route:
# After leaving Chatham Dockyard the vehicles will travel along the A289 Medway Tunnel road to join the M2 at junction 3;
# The loads will then continue down Blue Bell Hill and join the M20 all the way up to junction 10 at Ashford;
# Finally, they will travel along the A2070 and A259 before arriving at the site at Walland Marsh, near the Kent/East Sussex border.
Police say six motorcyles and one car will escort each movement. From Tuesday, the loads will aim to leave at 5am and noon to avoid the busiest times on the roads.
