Fight against proposed Otago windfarm

Opponents of a proposed windfarm in central Otago have launched a plan to gain national support for their fight.

The Project Hayes Windfarm on the Lammermoor Range near Ranfurly would be the southern hemisphere’s biggest, but a group calling itself Save Central hopes for enough backing to scuttle the Meridian Energy project.

The group is spearheaded by local artist Grahame Sydney and writer Brian Turner who, together with others, have spent more than $200,000 fighting the proposal in the Environment Court.

A full page newspaper advertisement has been taken out featuring one of Mr Sydney’s paintings of the ranges which appears to have been vandalised to parallel what the Save Central group says is the ruination of the Lammermoor landscape.

Save Central members say they hope ordinary New Zealanders will donate money to the cause.
