Council grants wind farm proponent site access

Denmark’s wind farm is one step closer to going ahead after the local council granted the proponents access to the site earmarked for the project.

The Community Wind Farm Group wants to build two wind turbines on a 50 hectare site at Wilson Head, near Ocean Beach.

The Western Australian Government rezoned the land for the project in 2005 but did not grant access to the site.

The Shire of Denmark has now agreed to give the group access from Ocean Beach Road.

The group’s Craig Chappelle has welcomed the decision.

“A sensible decision, and a small but important victory, not just for the wind farm but for the community as a whole,” he said.

The group must now secure just over $1 million in Federal Government funding and gain access to Western Power infrastructure.
