Glen Innes council adopts new wind farm policy

The Glen Innes Severn council has officially adopted a new policy governing the development of wind farms.

But it will not affect a controversial development in the Furracabad district, west of Glen Innes, which is considered of state significance and is in the hands of the Government.

The council’s director responsible for environmental services, Graham Price, says under its new plan, wind farms will not be able to be built near homes.

“The critical issue that received wide support from the community is a recommended two kilometre buffer distance from non-related dwellings,’ he said.

“So those properties than don’t have a turbine or wind farm on them … council’s asking for those applicants to understand that’s the distance we’d be requiring.”
