Wind turbine prompts public meeting

Birkenshaw and East Bierley councillors have called a public meeting next week to discuss controversial proposals for a wind turbine on the outskirts of the villages.

Princes Soft Drinks, off Tong Street, have submitted a planning application to Bradford Council for the turbine in their grounds.

The councillors said they had received an undertaking from the company to attend a meeting once the application was submitted, but so far the company and its agents have failed to come up with an agreed date.

Coun Andrew Palfreeman said: “Despite the promises from Princes and their agents, and the offer of a number of dates for the meeting, we have found it impossible to get a firm commitment from them. In addition, requests for information from planners in Bradford have been ignored.

“We have now learnt that the final date for submissions is June 5 and it is essential that everyone has the chance to make their views known.

“The meeting has been arranged and Princes have been invited. I just hope that they show the village the courtesy of turning up.

“Whether they do or not, the effects on East Bierley and north Birkenshaw of the erection of the turbine will be dramatic and it is right that everyone has the chance to see why and express their views.”

The meeting is on Friday, May 30, at East Bierley First School, South View Road, from 7pm.
