Action group formed to fight wind farm

A meeting in Chase Terrace has formally set up an action group to oppose the Bleak House wind farm plans.

Harworth Power has applied for planning permission to erect three turbines on the former opencast coal site.

Representatives from locations all round the site including Wimblebury, Rawnsley, Prospect Village, Heath Hayes, Hazelslade, Norton Canes and Chase Terrace met to discuss their action plan.

“Although the action group is opposed to this particular site it was emphasised that no-one on the group is opposed to renewable green energy programmes,” said a spokesman.

“But to site three wind turbines in this location is totally inappropriate.” The group discussed issues like setting up a better website, campaigning outside supermarkets, distributing leaflets to inform the public and how to present the opposition case to the Cannock Chase District Council planning committee when it meets to discuss the application.

The meeting was attended by about 20 people and was chaired by county Councillor Eric Drinkwater.

He said: “I fully support this group and its aims and I want to see that all sides of the argument are heard.

“Members of the public need to know what is happening on their doorstep and if they have concerns should write to John Heminsley at Cannock Chase District Council planning department to express them.”

The action group will be meeting every two weeks leading up to the day of the meeting that considers the planning application to make sure they have covered every issue.

The group can be contacted via www.bwfag.co.uk or Dave Baker on 07876 746621.
