With regards to the article in last week’s Journal (Ilfracombe edition) about the BT wind farm testing being permitted at Mullacott, may I make a point to all readers. Wind farms should only be situated off-shore, about 15 miles out, so that due to the curvature of the Earth, they are virtually invisible from land.
Doing that means you could have a million out there, and no one would know, or be bothered about them as eyesores. However, this makes it more expensive for the electricity to be generated and brought ashore, therefore, wind farm operators don’t like doing this as it affects their profits.
Generating electricity by wind is uneconomic. The only reason wind farms are “very now” is because the Government provides a subsidy to meet its “Green Energy Targets”.
Finally, telephone networks don’t use much electricity, I was in the industry for 15 years. If BT are granted permission for this wind farm, I believe they will just sell the electricity on to the National Grid. They won’t channel all the electricity generated to all their public exchanges in the South West, it’s not feasible. In my opinion it’s just about making money.
