Residents have 19 days to give their views on a controversial wind farm.
Nuon Renewables has handed in its application to North Shropshire Council planners for seven wind farm turbines at Woore, which would be as high as St Paul’s Cathedral.
A 21-day consultation period started on Monday and ends on June 9, amid fears the 200ft turbines will be a blot on the Nantwich rural skyline but company bosses claim they will “add to the farming landscape”.
Project manager Graham Davey said: “The Poplar Lane wind farm will add to the farming landscape as a 21st Century symbol of people’s commitment to renewable energy. We feel that the proposal is of a scale appropriate to the setting and the contemporary rural economy.
“There are some genuine concerns that require safeguards not only in the design of the proposal but in ensuring compliance in the construction and operation of the wind farm. It is particularly important that we take steps to avoid the occurrence of any shadow flicker or noise nuisance for neighbours as a result of the working of the turbines.”
Campaign group VORTEX – Veto On Rural Turbine Expansion – fear the wind farm could lead to severe health problems, noise pollution and slash the value of homes near to the site.
VORTEX co-ordinator Terri May, of nearby Napley Heath, said: “It won’t add to the landscape, it will create a whole new one. It’s not what we want. There are a lot of properties that will be affected by it.”
If passed the, wind farm would generate enough energy to power 600 households each year.
