Westar Energy and Electric Transmission America announced today that they have formed a joint venture to build ultra-high capacity transmission lines to aid in the development of wind power.
The venture, Prairie Wind Transmission, proposes to build about 230 miles of 765 kilovolt transmission lines from Wichita to Dodge City and then to the Kansas border.
These facilities are expected to be ready by late 2013.
The two companies will own equal shares in Prairie Wind.
Electric Transmission America is a joint venture between AEP Transmission Holding Co., a subsidiary of American Electric Power, and MEHC America Transco, a subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings.
