Group analysing wind farm

A community group is analysing WestWind Energy’s planning application for its proposed Lal Lal Wind Farm.

The proposal involves a wind farm split into two sections; one at Lal Lal and another at Elaine.

Lal Lal and Elaine Landscape Action Group are currently analysing the planning application with its experts.

Group spokesman John McMahon, has expressed his concern at the size of the proposed wind farms and turbine size. While he said renewable energy was critical to help climate change, he questioned the efficiency of wind power.

“We also believe that if this wind project does go ahead, it is in a very inappropriate area due to relatively high population,” Mr McMahon said.

“Concerned people should be prepared to send in an objection. If they don’t, their silence will be regarded as an agreement with the project.”

WestWind Energy spokesman Grant Flynn said the public exhibition period had not yet begun but when it did, the company would send a CD version of the application to everyone in the area.

“We would encourage everyone, once they’ve read it and made up their own minds, to make a submission to the minister,” Mr Flynn said.
