…and another plan looms

An energy firm has said it is considering submitting plans for a wind farm between Gilmorton and Ashby Magna.

London-based Broadview Energy has written to district councillors and set up a website saying it has identified the area, Low Spinney, as a potential location for a number of turbines.

The firm says it will shortly be asking for planning permission to erect a data-gathering mast at the site and, depending on the results of the tests, a full application could be submitted at the end of 2008 or early 2009.

In the letter, Lisa Ross, the firm’s community relation and office manager, says: “Over the past 18 months Broadview Energy has undertaken an extensive review of the East Midlands to identify suitable sites for the development of small wind farms.

“From this review a number of potential locations, including Low Spinney, have been assessed in more detail with a number of reports being commissioned.”

The firm says until information from the data-gathering mast is analysed, it is impossible to say how many turbines would be applied for, or what size they would be.

Lutterworth county councillor Rosita Page said all options for gathering energy should be considered before rushing into wind power.

She added: “I do have concerns over whether wind farms are the most efficient way of gathering energy.”

Broadview Energy has set up a website about the proposals at www.lowspinney windfarm.co.uk.
