No one could ever describe Tricorn House as anything other than an eyesore. But I had to laugh when I read (Stroud Life, April 23) that power entrepreneur Dale Vince could be moving in.
He should know an ugly building when he sees one – he’s already erected 92 ghastly wind turbines on 27 so-called wind farms across Britain, and wants to build more.
His first effort, at Nympsfield, is still vigorously opposed by many locals a decade after it opened.
Why doesn’t Dale build his offices at the foot of one of his towers? Too noisy, Dale? Don’t like the view, Dale?
I note too, that when it comes to powering his own office in Stroud, he has chosen super-quiet solar electricity.
Dale is busy making a fortune after convincing plenty of twerps that wind power provides clean energy.
Well it does – when the wind blows. But every wind turbine has to be backed up by a conventional power station for days when the air is still.
Until we master wave power, or our scientists come up with some new ideas, the best way forward to reduce pollution from power is to use less electricity and carbon fuels.
And I hope that’s a 50cc bike you ride, Dale, not a wasteful 750.
