A proposed wind farm near Cooktown could get the go-ahead if a meeting between the proponents and the Queensland Government goes well.
Meteorologist Lloyd Stumer says he has the backing of a German consortium, including Deutsche Bank, to fund and operate the 60-turbine farm.
He says the consortium is looking for an indication of the State Government’s support at a meeting with departmental officials tomorrow.
Mr Stumer says if that happens his financial backers want to fast-track the $250 million project.
“We’ve got arrangements with Enercon who are the third largest turbine manufacturer in the world. They’re part of this consortium and they can provide the turbines fairly quickly for us, quicker than on the world market,” he said.
