Wind farm in Yellowstone Co.

An Irish energy company is looking to build up to 300 wind turbines in Big Horn and Yellowstone Counties. This project could bring millions of dollars to the area.

Bill Fisher owns property in the Pine Ridge area. He said he is currently in negotiations with the power company Gaelectric and is not allowed to talk about specifics. He said officials with the company are talking to several landowners in the Pine Ridge area about building on their land.

“I’m 61, I’ll be 62 this fall,” Fisher said. “I spent most of my life on the ranch. It’s a family farm. I knew the wind blew a lot out there, but you don’t really think about those things it’s just an annoyance you put up with.” Fisher said the company will need to collect about two years worth of wind data in the area before breaking ground.

Gaelectric officials would neither confirm nor deny any future plans.
