OBPA closing river access to protect turbine parts

The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority announced Wednesday that it is closing public access to the St. Lawrence River from its property on Wall Street.

“This area is closed because of the anticipated storage of wind turbine components and security requirements,” OBPA Executive Director Wade A. Davis said in a prepared statement.

The first shipment of wind turbine parts to the Port of Ogdensburg for unloading and storage is scheduled to arrive May 1 to 3. The wind turbine parts are destined for Wolfe Island, Ontario, in the St. Lawrence River.

The public authority asks anyone seeing people trespassing on the property to call OBPA at 393-4080 or the Ogdensburg Police Department at 393-1551. Boaters will be allowed to fish in Wheathouse Bay.
