Wind farm turbines may be cut from 16 to 12

The energy company behind plans for a wind farm at Nun Wood is likely to cut the number of turbines from 16 to 12.

npower renewables says the move, on land between Lavendon, Harrold and Bozeat, reflects a consultation exercise and advice from experts.

Opponents say they doubt the measures will mean the site remains economically viable.

Cath Stevenson, regional development manager for the company, said: “npower renewables takes consultation responses seriously to ensure our wind farms are sensitively designed taking into account local factors.

“Nun Wood is an excellent site for a wind farm and has the potential to make an important contribution towards regional and national renewable energy targets,” she said.

She said more work had to be done finalising the details and the existing planning application will be withdrawn and a new one resubmitted to Wellingborough Council probably this summer.

The opposition group BLOT says it is delighted but concerned a new
application is being submitted.

“We will be watching them and will be ready and waiting to fight the second round,” said spokesman Graham Mabbutt.

He said BLOT is concerned the turbines would be pushed towards Harrold.
“We cannot see how they can meet objections and still retain an economically viable site,” he said.
