Village meetings for Yorkshire Dales windfarm protestors

Yorkshire Dales residents whose villages may be overshadowed by five giant wind turbines are being invited to attend meetings in order to register their opposition to the scheme.

Planning permission for five giant turbines at Marton, near Skipton, has not yet been granted but Craven District Council has given the go-ahead for the building of a test anemometer to measure wind strengths.

This alone will stand higher than Big Ben and the turbines, if erected, would be the highest ever built in the UK. With the hill they stand on, they would tower more than 1,000 feet above sea level.

Angry local residents have formed a protest group, the Friends of Craven Landscape, which is organising a series of village meetings and everyone is welcome. The schedule is:

* Hellifield Institute Hall – 8 pm Tuesday 13th May
* West Marton Village Hall – 8 pm Wednesday 14th May
* Coniston Cold Village Hall – 7 pm Thursday 15th May
* Gargrave Village Hall – 8 pm Tuesday 20th May
