Questions blowing in the wind

PEKIN – It’s the citizen’s opportunity to speak out about a proposed wind farm spanning Tazewell and Logan Counties. Tuesday night, citizens asked representatives from Horizon Rail Splitter Wind Farm questions about their plans.

The project is expected to cover 11-thousand acres of farmland over two counties, just east of I-155. Some citizens against the wind farm worry about its effect on their property values, farms and health. They argued the wind turbines will disrupt wildlife and natural habitats. Others say this is chance to tap into a green, clean energy and that having the turbines on fields is no different then having a cell phone tower there – except that cell towers are a want, and energy is a need.

Experts from the wind farm will speak and answer more questions on May 15th. That meeting will take place at the Tazewell County Justice Center and is open to the public.
