Whole of Cornwall is at risk from wind farm bids

In the Camelford area of North Cornwall we often suppose we are the only ones in the county awash with wind power applications by having two wind farms running and three new ones threatened. But applications are springing up all over Cornwall, the latest at Fiddlers Green, Newlyn East.

The sad truth is that people who object are up against planning officers who nearly always recommend approval because of Government pressure and planning committees that do not understand or realise what they are responsible for.The reason for the push for onshore wind power is that the latest figures show that offshore wind costs about £2.9 million per megawatt of installed power against only £1 million for onshore. Ironically the true cost of electricity produced because they are less than 30 per cent efficient should be put at three times this, while the companies will make about £800,000 per megawatt hour per year.

People who would like to object to this fiasco can do so at the Prime Minister’s website at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/windpower/
