Moorabool group fears wind farm trouble

A resident group has claimed the proposed Yendon/Elaine wind farm would be a permanent blight on the landscape with little community benefit. Lal Lal and Elaine Landscape Action Group spokesman John McMahon said about 2000 residents live within five kilometres of proposed turbines, but only six landholders would benefit financially. “Apart from the significant reduction in the beauty of the landscape, there would be significant impact on the nearby properties due to noise, vibration and shadow flicker,” he said. But Westwind Energy spokeswoman Angela Sutcliffe said the community’s views had been considered. “As to the matter of balancing natural landscape and heritage issues with the benefits of the proposed project, this is a matter for the State Government,” she said. “WestWind Energy has sought to strike a balance between these issues that is consistent with the planning scheme.” The proposal can be viewed at www.westwind-energy.com.au.
