Stromness wind turbines get go ahead

A application to erect three wind turbines at Merranblo, Stromness, has been approved by Orkney Island Council, despite a recommendation to refuse it on the grounds that the development would have an adverse impact on nearby World Heritage Sites.

The controversial decision to grant the application, subject to conditions, was made after a vote by councillors at a special meeting of the environment, planning and protective services committee on Tuesday afternoon.

Seven councillors voted in favour of the development and three against it.
