Wisconsin regulators agree to look into windmills in Great Lakes

Wisconsin regulators have decided to look into implanting giant wind turbines in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.
The three-member Public Service Commission voted unanimously Thursday to begin assessing whether the concept can be executed. The idea is part of a host of recommendations from a global warming task force Gov. Jim Doyle created.
Building offshore windmills is a risky undertaking for any utility. But winds over water are generally stronger, less turbulent and more consistent than winds over land. That could lead to more energy production.
