Wind farm

Nacel Energy has announced a new facility to capture wind energy in Moore County.

The Channing Flats project will have a top capacity of 20 megawatts, the company said. It will be a companion for the Blue Creek wind farm to be built north of Amarillo that Nacel announced March 19.

Nacel calls the plans “community wind programs” because they are smaller installations, making for less impact than larger facilities and easier connections to existing transmission lines, said Murray Fleming, director of investor services for Nacel. They will consist of about 12 turbines.

It can cost up to $2 million to install commercial-sized turbines.

The company has a goal of developing 80 megawatts of production in 36 months using local investors in several states, according to its Web site.

One megawatt of electricity can provide power for 250 to 300 average homes.
