Couple's battle continues over wind turbine noise

It’s back to square one, but a step in the right direction, for a couple who are fighting to save their home from the blight of wind turbines. Jane and Julian Davis left their Deeping St Nicholas home at Christmas 2006 after months of sleepless nights due to noise and vibration from the turbines, which are less than 1km from their house. However, there is a way forward at last after complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman over the handling . . . Complete story »

Looking up: first Fenland refusal of wind turbine

Fenland’s first refusal of a wind turbine application happened in the same meeting a wind farm won permission to be extended. Anglian Water lost their application to build a single turbine at their March sewerage treatment works in Creek Road. Minutes later, the Co-op Group was given permission with another seven turbines added at the wind farm in a £16 million extension of the Coldham Estate. John Stoneman from Cambridgeshire Environment and Wildlife protection, said: “There is light at the . . . Complete story »

ZBA votes to lift wind farm turbine limit, restrict home turbines

An audience of some four dozen farmers and agricultural property owners applauded the concept of wind farms as protectors of farm land at Tuesday evening’s meeting of the La Salle County Zoning Board of Appeals. At the end of the meeting, the ZBA voted on a package of zoning ordinance adjustments that included lifting restrictions on wind farm growth. The full County Board likely will vote on the changes at its meeting next week. Previously split on how much to . . . Complete story »

Go-ahead for wind turbines plan, despite broad opposition?

Plans for two giant wind turbines which will dominate the countryside between Garstang and Pilling look likely to get formal council support next week. A Cornish-based company lodged plans to site two 80m high turbines at Orchard End Farm, Eagland Hill, with Wyre Council earlier this year. Now, despite more than 300 letters of objection, council officials are urging the plan be given the go-ahead. The list of the objectors includes the British Horse Society, Fylde Coast Bridleways Association, Fylde . . . Complete story »

Wisconsin county implements strict noise regulations on wind turbines; Company declares “war to end all wars”

Calumet County, in eastern Wisconsin, recently faced a dilemma that is increasingly common in rural America: an outside company had appeared in their region, planning to build wind farms and seeking permits. Many local governmental bodies have taken a cursory look at complex reports submitted by companies, taken assurances of “no noise” at face value, and later regretted not learning more. The Calumet County Board of Supervisors took two years to consider the issue, and in March instituted a carefully . . . Complete story »

Energy plan needs more thought

In the wake of the defeat of the massive wind farm proposed for Lewis, readers might like to consult a document available in Forres Library to get a flavour of what is in store for us. This is the Supplementary Environmental Information relating to the Berry Burn proposal, a wind farm of 29 turbines extending over 18 square kilometres on a site east of the A940 including Carn Kitty and Carn Ghuibhais. What people may not realise is that this . . . Complete story »

CCC4RE member clarifies group's position

Carol and Wes Kupsky, Ken Buechel and Len Davis have asked several questions of those county residents and fellow taxpayers they have labeled the “Anti-Renewable Energy Crowd.” As a member of that concerned grassroots citizens group, known as CCC4RE, Calumet County Citizens for Responsible Energy, I appreciate the chance to provide them with much-needed information. No. 1. CCC4RE held a public informational meeting in August 2007 at Chilton High School. Seven hundred people attended. The wind company was invited to . . . Complete story »

Village fights windfarm plan

Green power company Enertrag UK has submitted a planning application to develop a windfarm in the south Norfolk village of Hempnall, provoking fury from local objectors who have been fighting the proposals for months. The Diss-based company is seeking consent for seven 130m high turbines on land at Bussey’s Loke that would supply the National Grid with enough renewable energy to power 10,000 homes annually. But the project is highly controversial, with hundreds of protestors voicing their concerns at public . . . Complete story »
