VCAT hears Newfield wind farm appeal

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) will today start hearing about Acciona Energy’s proposal to build a wind farm at Newfield.

In January, Corangamite council refused to issue a planning permit for the 15-turbine project.

The wind farm would be visible from the Great Ocean Road and the council is concerned the project would alter the landscape.

It also says more than 60 properties would be affected by noise and blade flicker if the project went ahead.

But Acciona Energy is making an appeal in VCAT because the council’s decision was contrary to the recommendation of the council’s own planning officer.

The company says the wind farm meets all the federal, state and local planning requirements.

VCAT has also received at least four statements from people opposed to the project.
