Councillors gave the proposed wind farm in Harthill the go-ahead today.
Following a site visit this morning, Rotherham Council’s planning board gave the green light for the three 95-metre tall turbines on Loscar Farm.
The long-running saga has seen developers, Cornwall Light & Power (CLP), have to appease planners on several issues before the Packman Lane plan was recommended for approval.
And ahead of today’s decision, both CLP and protesters felt they had done enough to secure the decision they wanted.
Harthill Action Group – led by chairman Dave Bentley – began campaigning over three years ago when the Loscar Farm site was first linked with wind power.
Mr Bentley said the group had given their all to prevent the proposals going through, while CLP’s development team felt they had done enough to satisfy planners as early as last summer.
This morning, borough councillors on the planning board met with both sides in Thorpe Salvin. From there, they went to visit the actual site to view the area from several vantage points before heading back to Rotherham Town Hall to make their decision.
