Wind farm going up in mouth of canyon

Utah’s first urban wind farm is rising from the ground in the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon.

The tall white towers are creating a new skyline in the mouth of the canyon, and residents like Catherine Markel are very glad the wind farm is in the canyon, instead of across the street from her house, where they were originally planned.

“That would’ve been disastrous. Yeah, they would’ve been overpowering to the area,” she said.

And as for how they look snuggled up against the picturesque mountainside, one resident said, “maybe if I had to look at them all day long they’d bother me, but doesn’t bother me now.”

The city plans on holding a kite festival to coincide with the day all the windmills come online.
