I am writing in reply to your article ‘Turbines Will Have Minimum Wildlife Impact’ published date: 26 March 2008.
With the prospect of turbines on my local ‘patch’ Marshland St James, I made a visit to the Coldham wind turbines last summer to see for myself the environmental impact immediately around the turbines.
I was horrified! All there was to see was a dead otter floating in the River Nene which runs alongside the turbines and a pheasant lying dead at the base of one of the turbines, the marks where the bird had impacted clearly visible.
But worst of all there was no bird song, just a terrible whooshing noise from the turbine blades.
This is NO comparison with the number of birds I would be able to see or hear if I visited a comparable piece of fenland riverside habitat with no wind turbines where I currently live.
I totally sympathise with Mr Clark and Mr Scott. Can this displacement of wildlife really be termed – minimal impact?
