Bluewater Wind officials say off-shore wind is an economically smart, environmentally smart and reliable choice for Delaware; however, Delmarva Power officials say on-shore is even better.
Tuesday Delmarva Power officials along with officials from The Delaware Electric Co-op and The Old Dominion Co-op announced they’re accepting bids from on-shore wind power developers.
Officials say they hope to analyze the bids in April, negotiate in May and submit them to the Public Service Commission in June.
The President of Delmarva Power Gary Stockbridge said, “what we’ve seen from early pricing, we believe we can save half. That translates into 50 million dollars every year and that’s substantial money.”
Officials also add that off-shore proposals won’t come in until 2015, but on-shore bids can be as early as 2010. They claim on-shore wind power can happen earlier and will cost customers less.
Delmarva Power officials claim the Bluewater Wind proposal would have cost customers anywhere from 5 to 15 dollars extra every month.
However, Bluewater wind officials say Delmarva Power is looking at unrealistically low bids that probably include hidden costs.
