Wind farm decision next week

Two out of the three north Northumberland wind farms set to be determined next week are being recommended for approval.

Borough Council planning officers say the plans for Moorsyde, south west of Berwick, and Barmoor, between Ford and Lowick, should be given the green light.
The proposals for Toft Hill, south west of Grindon, should be refused, they say.

The borough council’s planning committee will determine the applications next Thursday at the Maltings, Berwick, from 10am.

Seven turbines are planned for Moorsyde and Toft Hill, with six at Barmoor.

Officers said the Moorsyde and Barmoor developments are in the “wind resource area” whereas the Toft Hill scheme would introduce “new and dominant visual elements to the setting of the Duddo Stone Circle Scheduled Ancient Monument”.

Anyone wishing to speak at the meeting must notify the senior democratic services officer Sue Finch on 01289 301721 or e-mail svf@berwick-upon-tweed.gov.uk by noon on Tuesday.

The time available to each group (supporters, protesters, etc) is extended to 10 minutes, and the number of speakers is not limited to two.

In the event that there is a large number of requests to speak for or against the development, the procedure provides for the individuals to be asked to agree among themselves who should represent them at the committee meeting.
