Plans for a windfarm near Ceres would damage tourism, according to Mid Scotland and Fife MSP, Ted Brocklebank.
The Conservative MSP was reacting to a report by Glasgow Caledonian University which found that tourism and jobs could be affected by the siting of windfarms in areas in Scotland.
Mr Brocklebank said: “This report shows that in areas such as Stirling, and Perth and Kinross, tourism revenue to the tune of £6.3 million as well as 339 jobs could be jeopardised by the siting of windfarms.
“While we all believe in renewable energy, it is clear that tourists do not find wind turbines compatible with areas of outstanding natural beauty.
“Here in scenic north east Fife we have seen the rejection of windfarm proposals at Clatto Hill and at Rossie.
“Tourism is vital to our local economy and I have no doubt that had these developments gone ahead there could well have been a decline in visitor numbers.
“This report confirms the growing weight of evidence that the proposed windfarm at Gathercauld near Ceres should be rejected.
“On tourism grounds alone, north east Fife and windfarms are mutually incompatible.”
