Wind farm to be built in Pictou County

A Pictou County entrepreneur has announced his company’s plan to install 34 wind turbines just west of New Glasgow, making it the largest wind farm in Nova Scotia.

Reuben Burge, president of RMSenergy Ltd, signed a long-term agreement with Nova Scotia Power to build the 51-megawatt farm on Dalhousie Mountain, which is visible from the Trans-Canada Highway.

Burge says he expects to break ground on the project in the spring 2009. He hopes to have all 34 turbines in place by December 2009.

“This project will allow us to power approximately 17, 500 average homes with clean, renewable energy captured right here in the region,” says Burge.

The project will also include the installation of four, six-watt turbines in Maryvale, 15 kilometres north of Antigonish.
