Inquiry begins on wind farm plans

A public inquiry is getting under way into a proposed wind farm near a village in the Scottish Borders.

Airtricity UK wants to build a total of 10 turbines at Langhope Rig near Ashkirk but was refused planning permission by Scottish Borders Council.

Five days have been set aside for the inquiry at Selkirk Rugby Club.

Developers have said the project would generate electricity for about 12,000 homes and would link into the national grid at Hawick.

The proposal was rejected by councillors last summer.

They went against officer recommendations and turned down the scheme.

Airtricity appealed against that decision which is now being taken to public inquiry.
