Councillor hits out at turbine open day cancellation

A West Norfolk councillor has hit out at the short-notice cancellation of Friday’s Wind Turbine open day in Marshland St James.

Councillor David Markinson, who represents the Mershe Lande ward on King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, said:

“I went along to the advertised Wind Turbine open day at Marshland St James Village Hall and discovered to my surprise that the doors were closed.

“It appears from what I can gather that those involved in the proposal to dwarf the area with 420 feet tall wind turbines had decided at the very last minute against having any public consultation as promised with the people of Marshland and did not bother to turn up or inform anyone. Not even a cancellation notice had been put up.

“During the 30 minutes I was outside the village hall there was a steady stream of people arriving every few moments. To say that some of them were very angry at having to go home again after their 12-month wait for some information on the proposal would be a gross under statement. My telephone and email have been red hot all weekend.

“Furious villagers told me that they felt they had been snubbed and once more their views had been ignored.

“This is disgraceful and a public relations disaster in my view. I was informed that people, including the disabled, had travelled a long way in some cases to find out at long last what is proposed for this area after being forced to wait a year for some news about the project from tight lipped developers. All of those people have been let down.

“This is the worst thing that could have happened in this regard and it was another bad day for the people of Marshland. Those that need to know should now be made fully aware that no proper public consultation has taken place here.
