Kelly tours proposed wind farm area

The New South Wales Government has agreed to continue negotiating with western lands leaseholders at Silverton, over adequate compensation for the loss of control of their land.

Meeting the press at the Broken Hill racecourse on Saturday, the Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly, says he met land-holders and toured the area that is the centre of the proposed wind farm.

“We got up early this morning and went and had a look,” he said.

“There is actually quite a lot of wind out there, but we went right to the top to where the sites were and had some discussions – they all had an opportunity to put their case and to talk about … the long time that the families have grazed there and that they want to … continue that on.”

Mr Kelly says he has made several committments to the land-holders, including that they may be able to earn a separate income to grazing interests from the presence of each wind tower.
