Tivetshall Parish Council has called a public meeting to discuss proposals to build six 125-metre high wind turbines south of Tivetshall St Mary.
Information and views will be gathered so the parish council can respond to the ‘scoping opinion’ request made to South Norfolk Council planners by windfarm firm Enertrag prior to it submitting a full planning application for the windfarm on farmland at New Road, next to the A140.
It will be held on Tuesday, 7pm, at Tivetshall Village Hall, Tivetshall St Margaret.
Tivetshall Parish Council chairman Graham Mills said: “We will put the views across to Enertrag about what they need to be looking at before they put in an application.
“We didn’t expect the application because of the one that was put in at Pulham airfield.
“There seems to have been quite a bit of opposition to other applications with people taking the view that they should be placed offshore but we are reserving judgement until the meeting.”
The land is owned by a charitable grant-making body called Huntingdon Freemen’s Charity, based in Huntingd
on, whose trustees include nominated councillors from Cambridge County Council and Huntingdon District Council.
Enertrag has said it has agreement to buy the land if planning permission is granted.
It already has proposals in place for a seven-turbine wind farm at Hempnall, while another wind energy provider, SLP Energy, is undertaking a scoping opinion exercise before submitting an application for seven 125-metre high turbines on the opposite side of the A140 to the Tivetshalls on land bordering Dickleburgh, Rushall and the Pulhams. Both schemes are being opposed by local residents.
The parish council has invited Enertrag, however, company spokesman Terry Chapelhow said: “It is not our policy to attend public meetings. We will be running some exhibitions in Tivetshall in the next couple of months. We find these are much more productive.”
