We read with interest the letters in the North Devon Gazette last week. It was interesting that one of the correspondents was very much in favour of the wind turbines but was not willing to put a name to their comments!
The reason we are not happy with the turbines are that Mr Willes has submitted the plans without any courtesy to the neighbourhood at all – they are away from his own home, the turbines will alter the outlook of our valley, they will cause shadow flicker and the surrounding areas – Parkham, Broad Parkham, Parkham Ash, Horns Cross, Bucks Cross – will hear the decibels. The person who wrote the letter quoted ‘what’s a decibel?’ – it could mean a lot if the noise is constant 24/7.
We may look more favourably at them if they were more than 50 per cent effective and were for the good of the community nearby, but unfortunately they are only 28-30 per cent effective. The only reason they are being put up is to further Mr Willes’ Cheese Factory (ie the supermarkets will tick a carbon footprint).
