Argument for wind power just hot air?

According to the latest figures, one wind turbine can generate enough electricity to supply a thousand homes.

Taken there are approximately 60-million people in this country and with an average of four per household, this equates roughly to 15-million houses. To supply all their needs this would take about 15,000 turbines. Industry, business, shops, offices, public lighting etc, must use four times the electricity domestic users require. This means to supply all our needs with wind turbines, we would require 75,000 turbines. For us to get 10 per cent of our power from this method would require 7,500 turbines.

Much of the time there would be insufficient wind to drive all the turbines to full capacity. Alternative power stations would still be running inefficiently at reduced output.

The cost in materials and energy to erect these turbines make them expensive, inefficient white elephants.

Surely in this day and age scientists, engineers and designers can come up with a filtration system to remove pollutants in coal power station emissions. These are much more efficient, need less land, work whatever the weather, and mean the vast amounts of coal still in the ground could be exploited.
