Since Viking Energy seem reluctant to give us any meaningful simulations about the scale of the proposed giant windfarm, I thought I’d have a bash at it myself. Taking the dimensions from the Viking Energy website and interpolating the scale from Google Earth, I’ve come up with this, which is part of a whole of Bressay simulation on http://www.burntcandle.co.uk/windfarm/windfarm.html
I’m sure Aaron will correct me if I’m wildly out, but I think this gives a fair idea (if anything, a little underestimated) of the scale of the farm in an environment we’re familiar with.
In my simulation, for the sake of clarity there around 20 turbines. The real thing will obviously be much, much bigger.
We need to be mindful also, as far as the financial exposure is concerned, of Alex Salmond’s recent prophetic vision for the Pentland Firth tidal barrage which would render anything Shetland could produce for the national grid redundant.
