ROXBURY – Jobs and titles for two of three people elected at Monday’s town meeting will change, but not their tenure. Additionally, a majority of voters at the more than four-hour meeting OK’d creation of a new zoning district, which will allow wind-farm facilities to be built in Roxbury.
Town Clerk Christine “Tina” Howard was voted to a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen. Her deputy clerk, Nina Rollins, won the town clerk position. Political newcomer Renee Hodsdon was elected tax collector/treasurer.
Voters also agreed to change the one-year terms of town clerk and tax collector/treasure to three years, beginning in 2009 and 2010.
Rollins said Tuesday evening by phone that a motion from the floor altered the outcome so that both positions wouldn’t change in the same year.
The new mountain district zone will include all areas of the mountain ridge comprised of portions of Record Hill within Roxbury, Flathead Mountain, Mine Notch, Partridge Peak, and North and South Twin mountains that are located at or above an elevation of 1,500 feet.
The land-use ordinance change was done to resolve gray areas of the document and to prevent wind-energy facilities from being labeled as industrial structures, which were prohibited until Monday night’s vote.
“It passed after much discussion,” selectmen Chairman Mark Touchette said by phone Tuesday evening. “It wasn’t as close as I thought it would be.”
