John Griffin, vice chairman of the Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission, is asking the federal Minerals Management Services to reconsider its recent assessment of the Cape Wind project. The MMS found that the Cape Wind project would have “negligible” aviation effects.
“It’s clear that the federal draft report ignored the concerns of pilots, airline operators and airport managers that the Cape Wind turbines may create a potential hazard to flights between the Cape and the Islands,” Griffin said in a written release. Griffin said 400,000 flights – both commercial and non-commercial – fly over Nantucket Sound each year. The FAA has undertaken additional study on the issue.
